2021.10.16 17:03 AndyLorentz Holy crap! Beachhead missions are rough.
Tried three times and failed to complete a Beachhead mission in the Davion border region. Difficulty 21, 200T limit. I was at 175 tons with a TDR-5SD, Shadowhawk D, and a Dervish.
At last count there were 13 enemy mechs? I could negotiate for 33 salvage, would be nice if I could actually complete the mission.
Not complaining, though. I had fun losing three times.

2021.10.16 17:03 strawberrycity Why Challenge Fear Foods?
I'm not being obtuse, I really am having trouble understanding this. Why do we need to challenge fear foods? I understand needing to get used to certain foods that appear regularly in life like cheese or bread or whatever. However, I don't understand why we need to challenge foods that we could easily avoid for the rest of our lives and that even regular people avoid.
For instance, my biggest fears are frappucinos and milkshakes. I could easily go the rest of my life without eating those. I don't crave them in daily life. So why do I need to drink one? Also, why would I need to KEEP drinking them? So many recovery people say you have to continue to keep the fear food in your diet. It really doesn't make sense to me.

2021.10.16 17:03 GoatOverlord Visual Demonstration of Dissolved Oxygen
Indigo Carmine Dissolved Oxygen
I think this video did a good job visualizing the process of oxygen dissolving in a liquid, which as homebrewers we usually only detect after it's too late and by the telltale signs of oxidized beer. What I found surprising was how a gentle sloshing in a mason jar with a small air headspace can incorporate oxygen into solution so quickly. Since there are no numbers for the preparation of the reagent used in this specific video there's no way to know the ppm concentration of the dissolved oxygen per color change. Many commercial test kits use similar concepts and chemistry to measure the DO concentration on a calibrated colorimetric scale. Of course, these types of tests are not nearly as accurate as using a spectrophotometer or electrochemical instruments, but it's definitely the most visually pleasing and quick to observe. On the reduction side, I'd be interested in testing one day if the residual reducing sugars like maltose have the ability to ward off oxidation better than those without them (e.g. higher FG beers vs lower FG beer, or an IPA with lactose vs without lactose when subjected to a dose of oxygen). If there's any literature out there on this I'd be interested to see it.
